You need to board a bus from Thames St or trinity PI. You can find this bus for five times a day. You can reach Madison Av or E33 St and then from there you can walk as its just 253 meters from there. It would take hardly around 3 minutes to reach empire state building. It would be 28 minutes ride on bus.
Cost: the bus fare would be around $2 to $3.
Subway: You can catch the subway train from Rector St and then from there head towards 34 St Herald sq which would be around 14 minutes ride. Once you reach 34 St – herald sq you can walk and reach empire state building within 3 minutes.
Cost: the ticket fare to reach via subway would be $3.
Ferry: If you are planning to reach from Wall st, you just have to walk till Pier 11 or wall street which is around 11 minutes’ walk and then you can catch a ferry to reach midtown / east 35th street. From there you need to walk again for about 17 minutes to reach empire state building.
Cost: it would cost you around $4 via ferry from Wall Street.

- B, C trains that is found at 110th street, 96th street, 72nd street, 103rd street and 81st street

You can take MSL bus that is available from Q 34th street station that would be heading towards Washington heights, you need to get down at the central part south that would be 4 stops from the boarding point.
You can also board the Q32 bus from the E42 street station and Madison Ave that would be heading towards Jackson heights, Queens. You need to get down at Madison Ave and E 59th street that would be 7th stop from the boarding point. You need to take west on the E 59th street till you would reach the central park south and 5th Ave.

Reaching through ferry: visitors who have travel to USA and want to visit statue of liberty can board ferry in lower Manhattan should make use of the public transport whenever available. Take the nearest subway such as Whitehall street that is on the N/R line, Bowling green that is present on 4/5 line and the south ferry that is on 1.
Cost: it would cost for the tickets around $6 to $9 and at the Battery Park it would be $20 for a 30 minute ride.
